Wat
Sambot is an often overlooked temple on the way to the boats that take you
out to see the freshwater dolphins in the Mekong at Kratie. Three sets of stairs
totalling over 300 steps take you to the topmost temple and some spectacular
views of the surrounding countryside. Tucked away in a corner is a structure
made for this man, whose bones have been cast in cement. The skeleton is the
remains of a man who died nearby while hiding from Khmer Rouge. Apparently
his angry spirit entered the body of a monkey who terrorized anyone who entered
its turf. Offerings are made to appease his spirit and prayers are sent to
heaven, asking him to be relieved of his suffering. Also see
